The undisputed worldwide regent of board games for fourteen centuries, chess is a favorite of athletes for the strategy, mathematicians for the probabilities, and people of all ages as a limitlessly fun and challenging intellectual sport. Whether participants choose to sharpen their skills or build their rank, chess is a fantastic individual and team sport.

Fall Chess Classic Tournament for Grades K-8

  • 5 rounds of over-the-board chess – 20 mins plus 5 second increment per move
  • Boards, pieces and clocks provided; non-elimination Swiss format
  • Trophies to the top three finishers and title of Charlottesville Scholastic Chess Champion
  • No registration fee, held last Saturday of October or first Saturday of November
  • Any player grades K-8 in the Charlottesville area in good standing is welcome to participate.
  • All skill levels are welcome

Spring Chess Classic Tournament Grades 7-12
