Welcome to Renaissance School, Central Virginia's college preparatory high school for high ability students in the arts, sciences, and/or humanities. We emphasize both broad and deep interdisciplinary learning through a balanced program equally strong in the arts and academics. Renaissance School embraces the whole student through differentiated and experiential learning. We emphasize creativity, critical thinking and collaboration.
Our program of study is both rigorous and enriching, asking students to engage on a daily basis their higher level thinking skills, their role as a social being, and their artistic creativity.

The application consists of four parts:
family information, a parent questionnaire, student application, and a student essay.
Area Middle Schools compete in tech, design, and finance!
We seek one team of four from each school:
1. Scientist 2. Artist 3. Mathematician 4. Captain
It’s our 3rd year of the challenge, and we are opening it up to the community. Students will compete for a $100 prize and a spot in our annual Art & Science show on Friday 5/8/20!

Each year, all Renaissance Students (and faculty) participate in summer learning. We've added some new options and kept some old favorites, and can't wait to learn more about your summer goals and adventures!
SUMMER PROJECTS FOR ALL STUDENTS:
1. All students read the selected community book: Animal Farm by George Orwell.
2. All students have summer reading for English by grade level (titles below).
3. All students pick three activities from the menu (at this link).
When completed, you may email your three projects to bfarris@renaissanceschool.org before the first day of school.

Congratulations to Emmett Angle-Davis ('21) for his acceptance to the Christopher Newport University Summer Humanities Institute! This summer program for three college credits will this year be covering the exciting topic of Heroes and Epics. We can't wait to hear all about it in the fall, Emmett!
Congratulations to Sydnie Lowmax('22) for being awarded a 50% scholarship to Rustic Pathways student global travel! Sydnie was “selected from a competitive pool of applicants, and we were so impressed by your strong motivation and commitment to service.” Way to go, Sydnie!
Congratulations to Lola Manning('19) for being awarded the full ride NSLI for Youth Scholarship to study in Taiwan! The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program was launched in 2006. The U.S. Department of State awards merit-based scholarships to high school students for immersion programs in locations where the eight NSLI-Y languages are spoken.

YYGS empowers the next generation of leaders by building a global community and designing interdisciplinary programs that foster intellectual curiosity, deepen understanding and inspire creative action across all borders.
Congratulations to Hendrik Younger ('21) for his acceptance to the UVA Summer Language Institute - German! Students attend classes five days a week and up to seven and a half hours a day. Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills are developed in a student-centered environment. Herzliche Glückwünsche! Sehr gut!
